The Worst Advice I've Ever Heard About Pregnancy

From the moment you announce your pregnancy to the moment your baby is born, you will receive loads of unwarranted advice from family, friends and even complete strangers. People love sharing their experiences and even though most of their advice is useful, we’ve heard some rather questionable advice on the subject. Here’s a list of the worst advice we’ve ever heard about pregnancy:

Don’t have sex when you’re pregnant
This one is very common and also very wrong! You can continue having sex right until you go into labour and it’s absolutely safe for your baby. Ask your gynaecologist and she’ll tell you the same thing.

It’s harder to conceive a girl
There is absolutely no truth in this one! There is no way to make sure you conceive a girl or a boy. The sperm determines the sex of the baby and it’s absolutely random. So don’t listen to anybody who tries to tell you which positions to try in order to conceive a girl!

Don’t exercise when you are pregnant
There are no adverse risks involved in exercising while pregnant. On the contrary, it is very healthy to exercise while you are pregnant. Do not increase the intensity of your workout but do not avoid it all together.

Hot baths are harmful during pregnancy
This is another bizarre piece of advice that should be completely ignored. Specialists say that as long as you don’t use hot tubs or saunas, you should be fine. Just make sure your bath water is not above 39 degrees Celsius.

Even though this advice is completely baseless, you might have to just smile and nod so that you don’t offend the advisor. Have you heard any of these common misconceptions? What’s the worst advice you’ve ever received about pregnancy? Share your experiences in the comments below.
